Join us on Saturday the 24th of August from 5:30pm for a community music event at the school!

We invite you and your loved ones to join us for this special occasion. Taking part in a Kirtan does not require any previous experience in singing - come as you are.

Professional tabla player Nish Pillay will be performing alongside a student of the school, Rebecca Cameron. They will lead a Kirtan - which is a call and response style of singing where a lead singer introduces a chant or mantra, and participants respond back. In the 1977 conversations, His Holiness Shantanda Saraswati says that: “This praise-singing, kirtanam, is in order to get into the rhythm of sound and songs which are devotional in character. Poets have created such songs in praise of the Lord, which are sung to quieten body and mind together.” We will share these energetic and joyous chants in Sanskrit and English before the event.

Please bring a cushion to sit on the floor for a more intimate performance, chairs will be available for those who need.

Homemade soup will be served to enjoy after the Kirtan and cacao chocolate medallions will be on sale for R35 a piece on the day of the event.

Note: This is a donation based event - donations can be made on the day in the form of cash or via SnapScan. We encourage a donation of around R150 per person, to contribute towards covering event costs. Any surplus donations will be put towards the school’s music fund, which focuses on supporting up and coming local musicians.
